Financial Update from Knox County R-1
We believe our community deserves clear and accurate information about the financial decisions affecting our school district.
Following questions regarding the $1.7 million Incidental Fund Tax Anticipation Note approved by the Board of Education on August 18, we want to provide additional clarification about what the note is, why it was approved, and how it relates to the district’s budget.
The attached letter provides a detailed explanation of the Tax Anticipation Note, the recent budget reductions, and the financial context surrounding the previous school year.
Our commitment is to transparency, open communication, and responsible stewardship of the resources entrusted to Knox County R-1.

Be on the lookout for our yearbook staff on Friday and Tuesday! They will be making phone calls and traveling to area businesses to sell yearbook ads. As our classrooms fill with energy on this exciting first day, our staff has been hard at work behind the scenes: throughout the summer, our Elementary and Middle/High School Building Improvement Committees met to establish data-backed targets directly aligned with our school-wide strategic plan goals.
These goals will be continuously monitored and tracked across the school year to evaluate our progress and determine where we are succeeding or where we need to refine our efforts.
Elementary School Improvement Plan
Math Proficiency: Unpack a target math standard into a measurable Essential Learning Outcome (ELO) with clear criteria to boost benchmark proficiency by 10%.
Literacy Proficiency: Unpack a target literacy standard into a measurable ELO to achieve a 10% increase in benchmark proficiency.
Student Attendance: Increase overall student attendance to 94% using systematic monitoring, family engagement, and barrier removal.
Behavior & School Climate: Enhance responsible student behavior and respect, targeted by a 3% reduction in discipline referrals, a 10% improvement on climate surveys, and school-wide character education.

We’re kicking off the semester by taking our taste buds on an adventure! Today, students got to try rambutan—a tropical fruit with a wild-looking exterior and a sweet, juicy center.
Some were brave, some were skeptical, and everyone had an opinion! 😂 We can’t wait to see what delicious discoveries are next as we explore foods and flavors from around the world!
